Big Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway
U-152 from Salt Lake to Brighton
Big Cottonwood Canyon is found only 25 miles east of Salt Lake City. Begin at the eastern border of the Salt Lake Valley where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Basin floor. The Wasatch-Cache National Forest
Spectacular vistas are found in this canyon carved by the erosive power of rivers. Alpine scenery and recreational opportunities draw visitors to this canyon year-round. The 15-mile long Big Cottonwood Canyon provides excellent hiking, biking , picnicking, rock-climbing, camping and fishing in summer. During winter its two ski resorts, Solitude and Brighton area a popular draw among locals and visitors.
To reach Big Cottonwood Canyon from Salt Lake City, take I-215 to the 6200 South "Canyons" exit and then continue east on U-152, following signs to Solitude and Brighton. This 15-mile scenic byway takes about one hour round trip.
