The Salt Lake Symphony's season's musical journey continues with a stop in the British Isles on November 7th. Utah Symphony cellist, John Eckstein, is our special guest for the Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar. This concerto is considered among the most personal and introspective works ever written. The voice of the solo cello is perfectly suited to the deep emotional message of the music. We'll travel further north for the second half with a performance of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, the "Scottish Symphony." You will be amazed at the infusion of Scottish images into an undeniably German masterwork. And to start it all off, we will lower the collective age of the group with a rousing performance of Vaughan William's Overture to the Wasps, with talented high school musicians sitting side by side with the musicians of the SLS.
Be sure to attend the pre-concert discussion, hosted by Conductor and Music Director, Robert Baldwin at 6:15 pm. in Room 270. Sponsored in part by the Utah Humanities Council.
