Days of 47 Pops Concert
Salt Lake City
Jul 13 - Jul 14
For two great nights this year, the Choral Arts Society of Utah Master Chorale teams up with incredible guest artists for this the 14th year with Sterling Poulson as Music Director and Conductor of the Pops. This year's line-up features Alex Boy? and the Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band, performing patriotic and inspirational music. A new twist to the concert this year, dancers from the Repertory Dance Theater will perform a few of the Old American Dances. The 2News Team from KUTV will host the event again this year. The Choral Arts Society of Utah Master Chorale has a long history of choral performances including a performance with the Utah Symphony Chorus of Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass in New York City's Carnegie Hall in June 1999 and under the baton of Jonathan Griffith, Mozart's Requiem in January 2005. The Chorale performed the premiere performance of Michael McLean's The Garden in the spring of 1996. Two of Utah's Governors invited the choir to sing at their Gubernatorial Inauguration. In 1991, the choir sang at the 1998 Olympic Bid announcement in Salt Lake City and performed at several venues for the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2004, the choir was invited to perform at the dedication of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. In June 2006, the choir toured through Austria for the 250th birthday celebration of Mozart, with performances of the Coronation Mass and other great choral works in Salzburg and Vienna. Alex Boy?, Best of state award recipient for "2009 Performing Artist of the Year", has been entertaining audiences worldwide for over 15 years. Born and raised in London, England, he has hits in over 15 countries, selling over half a million CDs. He performed alongside such groups as Bryan Adams, George Michael, Simon Garfunkel, N'SYNC, Jay-Z, The Backstreet Boys, Jordin Sparks, Dancing with the Stars winner Derek Hough, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, David Archuleta and The Smashing Pumpkins, to name a few. His music is featured in several movie Soundtracks including Charley, The Dance, Baptist at the Barbecue, Suits on the Loose and Church Ball. He recorded two solo songs on the new Tabernacle Choir release, "Come Thou Fount" which has garnered rave reviews and reached #1 on the Billboard Classical Charts. Alex is DYNAMITE!! You need to see him live to believe it! Organized in 1924 to provide music for military ceremonies, the 23rd Army Band has played for presidents, senators, congressmen and heads of state. Each year, the Band performs for thousands of people across the State of Utah and the United States, giving clinics and concerts for schools, performing at civic functions, marching in parades, and providing music for military dances, changes of command and pass-in-reviews. During the day, these citizen soldiers work as lawyers, accountants, teachers, law enforcement officers and more. Many also perform in other musical organizations around the state. When they come together, their musical talent is considerable. Utah's Repertory Dance Theatre was founded in 1966 as a fully-professional modern dance company through a cooperative effort involving the Salt Lake City community, the University of Utah and a major grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. This partnership was created to establish a company which would keep alive that unique, artistic achievement which is American Modern Dance. RDT strives to broaden the public's understanding of the art of modern dance through a variety of community based programs and acts as a resource center and laboratory for dancers, choreographers, visual artists, writers and composers. The company offers annual summer workshops and year-round classes to train aspiring professionals as well as inspire the creative potential in people of all ages.
