Makonga studied art and worked as a political cartoonist in his homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, before coming to the US in 2003. Through his art, he challenged repression and social injustice and advocated for environmental preservation. Now an internationally known and award-winning artist, he continues to fight for justice and the end to mass violence in the Congo.
