Artist Walter Rane is well-known for his dynamic and poignant religious depictions. Rane studied figure painting and illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. After living and working in Paris, France with his family, Rane worked for many years as an illustrator in New York and Connecticut. He has lived in Oregon most recently, focusing on paintings that highlight personal and scriptural themes. In past years, some of these paintings were featured in SMA's Spring Salon, receiving an Award of Merit in 2009 and 2011. This exhibition will explore some of Rane's favorite religious works, as well as lesser-known genres of his remarkable career as a painter and illustrator.
