Capitol Reef National Park Backcountry
Capitol Reef National Park includes a large area of backcountry that offers exceptional opportunities to enjoy solitude in a scenic, wilderness-like setting.
Hiking and backpacking are very popular here. Permits are not needed for day hikes in the national park. A backcountry permit is required for overnight treks. The permit is free and can be obtained at the visitor center during normal business hours.
Some trailheads are located along Hwy 23 and the Scenic Drive, which are the only paved roads in the park.
Three rough backroads provide access to the park's backcountry areas.
- Burr Trail
- Cathedral Valley Loop
- Notom-Bullfrog Road
