Great Basin Camping

Camping is popular in Great Basin National Park. The park offers four developed campgrounds with vault toilets, picnic tables, tent pads and campfire grills. There are no hookups or leveled parking sites. Campsites are limited to eight people, three tents, and two vehicles per site. Three of the campgrounds have accessible sites.

There are also two primitive campgrounds along Snake Creek and Strawberry Creek Roads. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings.

Lower Lehman Creek is the only campground open year-round. Other campgrounds are generally open from May until October, depending on the weather. Water may not be available early and late in the season, and is not available in the winter at Lower Lehman Creek. Fees are reduced if water is not available. Since exact opening and closing dates are dependent on weather conditions, contact a visitor center at (775) 234-7331 or check the park website for current information before your arrival.

All park camping is on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations can be made, except for the Grey Cliffs Group Campground. Campsites may not be "saved" or reserved for family or friends arriving later. Campgrounds often fill on weekends and holidays in the summer months. Visitors are advised to find a campsite early in the day.

Group Camping
The Grey Cliffs Group Campground offers four sites. Each site can accommodate groups of 9-16 people (or a maximum of 40 people when 2 sites are reserved together). This campground offers vault toilets but no potable water. Water is available at the Baker Creek Campground, the RV Sanitary Station from late spring through early fall, or the Lehman Caves Visitor Center.

RV Sanitary Station
There is a dump station, potable water, and trash receptacles located 1/2 mile inside the park on the main entrance road (NV Hwy 488). The dump station is usually open late May to October (weather permitting) and closed in the winter. Usage fee: $5. (No discounts for Golden Age or Golden Access cardholders.)

There are no shower facilities in the park. Pay showers are available outside the park at the Whispering Elms Motel, Campground & RV Park, the Baker Sinclair Gas Station and The Border Inn.

Firewood is not available for purchase in the park. Ferg's Firewood provides bundled wood, available at two 24-hour self pay stations in nearby Baker.
