I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas

Skiers, snowboarders and snowmobile enthusiasts are loving all of the snow that has fallen on Utah during the last couple weeks - and the weatherman says more is on the way. There will be plenty of the white stuff at Utah's mountain resorts during the upcoming holiday season. (See our snow report for current depths.)

Snow depths at the resorts are increasing on a regular basis. As of Dec 10, Brighton had a 60-inch snow base, and that's incredible for this early in the season. If this trend continues, we could have record snow depths during the popular Christmas-to-New-Years time period.

All but two of Utah's ski resorts are now open and the remaining two will swing into operation during the next few days. By Christmas, all of our resorts will be in full operation. Several resorts added skiable terrain during the off-season and some added new lifts. This year, full capacity means we can accommodate more skiers on more runs than ever before, while still offering some of the best skiing in the world.

Serious skiers love our deep, dry powder. When skiers are surveyed, Utah resorts dominate the rankings for best snow, best-groomed runs and best access. This news article provides details.

Snowmobile enthusiasts also love our deep powder and well-groomed trails. Our snowmobile season is just now getting underway - crews from Utah State Parks will begin grooming trails during the next couple weeks. Meanwhile, people are already breaking out their sleds and riding on ungroomed high country trails.

All of this new snow brings some avalanche danger in the backcountry. Avalanche control work is performed as needed above our highways and at our ski resorts, keeping those areas safe. People skiing out of bounds from the resorts and people venturing into backcountry areas do so at their own risk and need to pay close attention to avalanche forecasts. This website provides timely information.

The white stuff is here. Tis the season to ski, snowboard, snowmobile and enjoy other winter sports. Come on up - the snow is great.
