Utah Travel Tips

Ski Into Spring

Spring is just around the corner now, but don't go putting away your skis just yet. Utah resorts have an incredible amount of snow, with more falling every week, and so spring skiing will be great this season. With all the snow we've received during the past few weeks, people will still be skiing on Memorial Day.

Many resorts and lodging establishments offer discounts and special package deals during the spring. With great snow and the chance for discounts, spring is a wonderful season for skiers coming to Utah. Check out our ski packages for great values.

Another bonus, crowds are down during the spring and so there are usually no lift lines.

For the state as a whole, our snowpack is about 120 percent of normal. Snowbird has the most snow right now with a base of 130-inch. Alta is right behind with 129 inches, and Snowbasin is next with 125.

Average daily temperatures are definitely warming up now - we won't have many more days with bone-chilling cold. In March people will start skiing in shorts and T-shirts.

Between storms, snow often melts from the valleys in the Salt Lake area. As the snow goes, the golf clubs come out. There will be many days when you can ski during the morning and golf during the afternoon, if you are so inclined.

Down south, Brian Head has more snow than normal and conditions will be excellent going into the spring season. A little farther south, the world-class golf courses around St George are already drawing crowds. March and April are the best months to hit the links in that golf paradise, where it is easy to combine golf and skiing in one trip.

Brian Head is also close to Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks, so you can mix and match skiing, golf and national park scenery into a memorable vacation.

What piles up has to eventually come down, and water from late spring snowmelt will come gushing down the Green and Colorado rivers. Whitewater rafting conditions will be great this year - the runoff will create some of the best rapids ever. Late May and early June will be prime for adventure trips. Trips book up quickly for peak periods so make reservations early.
