Snowmobile Season
Bryce Canyon Winter Festival
The annual Bryce Canyon Winter Festival will be held February 14-16 at Ruby's Inn Resort, at the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. The festival offers cross country ski races, an archery clinic, archery biathlon competition, free snowshoe tours, free photography clinics, snow sculpture, kids' events, entertainment and more. Events may be subject to change due to snow and weather conditions.
There will be a special Valentines dance Saturday night with a live DJ -- Festival Sounds' Adam Rue.
The festival is an annual event held over President's Day Weekend (exact dates vary from year to year). For more information visit the festival's web page or call 1-866-866-6616.
The Bryce area is a winter wonderland. Deep snow accumulates along the Bryce rim, creating a beautiful backdrop against the pink hoodoos and deep green pine trees. In winter, the park is peaceful -- serene. At night the dark sky offers amazing opportunities for stargazing.
It is great fun to explore Bryce using cross country skis or snowshoes. Groomed trails begin at Ruby's Inn and interconnect with trails inside the park. You can explore along the rim or follow trails down into the Bryce amphitheater. Rental equipment, maps and information are available at Ruby's.
There are also excellent snowmobile trails in the area. Some that overlook the park while others climb into nearby mountain areas. (Note that snowmobiles are not allowed to operate within the national park boundaries.)
Snowmobile Season
The next few weeks will offer prime opportunities for snowmobiling throughout Utah. We've had abundant snowfall this winter and conditions are great statewide.
Excellent snowmobile trails can be found all around Utah. Seventeen unique areas have been designated snowmobile complexes; they offer hundreds of miles of trails and thousands of acres of backcountry play areas. Snowmobile adventures can range from mild, on gentle slopes, to extreme, on steep peaks providing incredible panoramic views of our winter wonderland. Snowmobile guide services and rental companies can put you on sleds and into terrain appropriate for your skill level and thirst for adventure.
Some of our most scenic trails follow Hwy 150 and spur roads into the Uinta Mountains. Hwy 150 runs from Evanstan, Wyoming, to Kamas, in northern Utah. During the summer months Hwy 150 is a popular byway leading through lush forest to numerous high mountain lakes. During winter, the roads here are transformed into snowmobile paradise. Snow piles deep and it is groomed into the perfect surface for sleds. The road winds up to the top of the world, passing just below the summit of Bald Mountain (reaching an elevation of 10,687 feet).
The Hwy 150 area is called the Mirror Lake Snowmobile Complex. Together with the adjacent Mill Hollow Complex, this region offers over 150 miles of groomed trail and numerous backcountry play areas and powder-filled bowls.
Snowmobiles can be rented at Bear River Lodge, on the north edge of the Mirror Lake Complex. The lodge also offers a gas station, restaurant and lodging in posh new cabins.
Come up and enjoy a day of adventure. Or, better yet, come up for a couple days. After an exciting day of snowmobiling you can relax and enjoy a cozy fire and rejuvenating jetted tub.
