Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
There is snow on Utah's mountains. Two cold storms hit Utah last week, dropping considerable snow at higher elevations. From my office I have a great view of Mt Timpanogas; snow now extends about half-way down the mountain. The ski canyons on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley picked up several inches of snow.
It's starting...
It's still early; we have many dry, mild fall days yet to enjoy. This is the perfect season to hike in Capitol Reef National Park, bike in Moab and golf in St George. The St George area is particularly attractive right now because the weather is perfect - not hot and not cold - and you can enjoy a wide range of activities. If you want to be pampered, in a classy, healthy way, I recommend Red Mountain Resort and Spa.
But the snows of winter are coming. The snow that fell with these storm will melt, mostly, but more will come during the next few weeks. The greatest snow on earth is starting to pile up around Utah's ski resorts. Some 500+ inches will fall at some resorts during the next months.
Warren Miller's DYNASTY action sports film is showing at several locations in northern Utah during the next few weeks. It is showing in HD and is guaranteed to get you excited about the coming ski season. We've previewed the film and it is excellent, as always. This page shows a trailer from the film, and gives show times and venues. We also have an interview with Cody Barnhill, a local athlete who appears in DYNASTY. To see the interview and trailer, just watch the videos at the top of the page.
When will the resorts open? It is still too early to say. Snowbird usually opens first and it expects to have lifts operating in mid-November. Now's the time to book ski trips, particularly if you want to come during the busy holiday season.
Meanwhile, our resorts continue to receive top awards from major national publications. Ski magazine has named Deer Valley the best resort in North American for the 3rd consecutive year. More of the magazine's rankings are given below, based on its annual survey of readers.
