Spring Brings Art, Golf and Ironman to St George

St George is beautiful during springtime. It's a garden spot in the desert, with mild temperatures, beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunity for recreation and adventure.

Some of the best events of the year will take place in St George during the next few weeks, as described below.

St George Art Festival
The St. George Art Festival will be held April 2-3, and will attract artists and art lovers from around the region. It began 30 years ago and has expanded to include over 110 artists juried from hundreds of entries, with thousands of original works of art on display. The festival is punctuated with pageantry, music and food.

St. George's mild, sunny climate makes the town well suited for the outdoor festival. Artwork is displayed in booths designed individually by each artist. The many categories of art accepted include watercolor, oils, pottery, sculpture, photography, woodwork, and other creations. The festival is held every Easter weekend.

Ford Ironman
Ford Ironman events will be held April 28-May 2, in and around St George. Participants will swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles. Registration is closed, sold out. Volunteers are still needed to help with events, and there is plenty of opportunity to watch the races and participant in related activities.

Major event venues include the Dixie Center and Sand Hollow Reservoir. People traveling in the area need to be aware that there may be congestion in these spots at times.

Spring Golf
Golf is extremely popular in the St George area during springtime. The weather is usually fair and mild and the greens are in great shape. On average, St George enjoys about 320 sunny days per year.

St George offers 13 excellent golf courses, including some that rank among the best in the US. For example, Golf Digest recently ranked The Ledges Golf Course at number 5 for best new public golf courses with green fees of $75 and above. Compared to other golf destinations, fees here are low and the courses are not crowded.

Recreation
Spring is the ideal time to hike in Snow Canyon State Park, ride ATVs at Sand Hollow State Park, or explore dozens of other area attractions.

When visiting this area, we recommend staying at Utah's unique Red Mountain Resort & Spa, where you will be pampered with luxury accommodations and delicious healthy cuisine while enjoying world-class recreational and adventure activities. Red Mountain is located adjacent to Snow Canyon, so you can hike right from your room. The resort provides incredible guided fitness activities and adventure expeditions.

National Parks Highlight

Zion National Park
Zion Park is beautiful during the spring. Actually, it is beautiful year-round but it will be particularly attractive during the next few weeks, when air temperatures are mild, wildflowers are poking out of the red soil and snowmelt-powered waterfalls plunge down the canyon walls.

This is the ideal time to hike Zion's spectacular trails, including the East and West rim trails, Emerald Pools, Canyon Overlook, Angels Landing and many others. (It is still too early to wade up the Narrows or down the Subway, or do other wet hikes.)

Zion is just a short 43 mile drive from St George and so it makes a base from which to explore the park. If you would rather stay closer, there are many good lodging options near Zion's main entrance. There are also great campgrounds throughout this area.
