Destination Ogden

Ogden, Utah, is a busy town north of Salt Lake City. Historically, Ogden was a major player in the development of the Transcontinental Railroad. Ogden's Golden Spike monument commemorates the beginning of the end of the American frontier: the connection of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. Today, Ogden's visitors enjoy downhill skiing at resorts Snowbasin (an Olympic venue) and at Powder Mountain.

	Snowbasin Resort — Ski or board slopes where many 2002 Olympic Winter Games events were held. Mountain-top amenities offer tasty food and incredible views. Great hiking and biking during summer.
	Powder Mountain Resort — Steep slopes and deep powder make this place unique — it often gets more snow than any other Utah resort. Hiking and biking trails are also superb.
	Antelope Island — Explore the Great Salt Lake, swim, picnic, camp, bike or hike the island trails to great viewpoints. You can also view a diverse variety of wildlife at this Utah State Park.
	Golden Spike National Historic Site — View railroad memorabilia and replicas of historic steam engines. Watch reenactments of the “golden spike” ceremony, when east met west here on May 10, 1869, completing the first transcontinental railroad.
	Ogden Valley & Pineview Reservoir — Small communities and great recreational opportunities make Ogden Valley an ideal playground. Pineview Reservoir offers fast fishing and outstanding conditions for water sports.
	Willard Bay — Camp, boat, water ski and fish at this freshwater reservoir, located on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. Walleye and unique “wipers” keep anglers happy.
	Eccles Dinosaur Park — View life-sized replicas of more than 100 dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. A hands-on education center makes this a great place to bring kids.
	Ft. Buenaventura Park — This was the site of the first permanent Anglo settlement in the Great Basic. It's establishment marked the end of the mountain man and fur trapper era. Rendezvous and other Old West events are held here.
	Ogden River and Weber River — Both these streams offer very good fishing. The Weber is also a popular river for kayaking. There are several excellent campgrounds on the South Fork of the Ogden east of Huntsville.
	Monte Cristo area — Snowmobiling is great on some 185 miles of groomed trail in this high mountain area. Links provide easy access to other winter play spots. During summer you can hike and view many species of wildlife in this area.

Snowbasin Ski Area

Hiking
The Ogden area offers an abundance of great hiking trails, leading to mountain-top vistas, waterfalls and other scenic attractions.

Powder Mountain

Mtn. Bike
The Ogden area offers excellent mountain biking opportunities, including the popular Skyline Trail, the Green Pond and Snowbasin Trail System, the Maples Trail and two sections of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Here's detailed information.

The desert climate of Ogden has yielded four major golf courses. Locals and visitors alike, enjoy swinging on these northern Utah greens.

Ogden is a city surrounded by mountains and by the Great Salt Lake. Recreation abounds on mountain trails and in scenic valleys.

Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
Keep your feet dry yet still experience great bird and wildlife watching around the Great Salt Lake wetlands. Designed to emphasize the Lake's ecological importance—particularly for millions of birds, the preserve includes a Visitors Center, a boardwalk trail through prime bird-watching habitat, and stunning vistas from a 30-foot-high tower.

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge
This is one of the best birding spots in the region. A wide variety of migratory birds stop here, and the refuge also boasts an interesting assortment of resident birds and animals. If you are a bird watcher, this is a must-see!

Hill Aerospace Museum

Great Salt Lake
This remnant of former Lake Bonneville, the Great Salt Lake covers over 2,000 square miles and is several times saltier than the ocean, and is a popular sailing and bird watching destination. It can be accessed from Antelope Island State Park (801-773-2941) and from the Great Salt Lake Marina South Shore State Park (801- 250-1898).

Historic 25th Street
Turn-of-the-century historic district has antique and boutique shops, cafes and pubs.

Historic Union Station
Celebrate the growth of America at Historic Union Station. No longer in operation as a train depot, the station is home today to four museums, an art gallery, library, and model railroad display. 801-393-9886

Pioneer Days (July)
This annual commemoration of the settlement of the state is celebrated throughout the city with outdoor western concerts, Ogden Street Festival, craft fairs, a children's parade and vintage car show. Ogden Valley Balloon Festival (August)
Held the third weekend of August at Wolf Creek Resort in Eden. Also features events throughout the Ogden Valley such as arts exhibits, Plein Aire competitions, crafts and live entertainment.
