Provo is the third-largest city in Utah (behind Salt Lake City and West Valley City).
- Estimated population 120,000 people
- Home of Brigham Young University
- County seat for Utah County
- Utah County population estimate 520,000
Provo shares a border with sister-city Orem and in many areas it is difficult to tell which city you are in. The cities are often grouped as the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area, with these characteristics.
- Rapid population growth
- Strong business environment
- High tech center
- Pleasant, livable communities
The metro area often ranks near the top of national polls regarding desirable places to live, work and play. One key reason is the accessibility to recreational areas. The Provo/Orem area provides easy access to the national parks and canyon country of southern Utah and also the mountains and ski resorts in the northern part of the state.
Provo is bounded on the east by towering mountain peaks (part of the Wasatch Front), and on the west by Utah Lake (which is an important area for recreation).
Brigham Young University and nearby Utah Valley University (located in Orem) bring many artistic, cultural and sporting events to the Provo/Orem community.
