These are mostly private clubs - in Utah that means they serve alcohol. A temporary membership usually costs about $4; it allows access for the holder and up to 7 of his/her guests. Here's more about Utah's liquor laws. Generally, you've got to be 21 or older to enter. Some have areas open to those 18 and older.
The Bayou restaurant and private club (downtown at 645 South State Street; 801-961-8400). 150 different beers from around the world. Live jazz on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Cajun cuisine.
Club Vortex (downtown at 404 S West Temple; (801) 355-7746). Drinks, monthly theme parties, national and international DJ's, dancing. This is described as a sensually exciting club.
The Depot (downtown at 400 W. South Temple; 801-456-2888). Huge dance floors and the best sound system in the region.
Duffy's Tavern (almost downtown at 932 S. Main; 801-355-6401). A friendly, sit-down bar offering reasonably priced drinks. The food's good too.
Green Street (at Trolley Square, 602 East 500 South; 801-532-4200). Live bands on weekends, dancing, karaoke, pool, darts and sports on big screen.
The Huddle (Located on the east side of the valley near the ski canyons: 2400 East Fort Union Blvd; 801-438-8300). A genuine sports bar with 24 TVs, including 2 big screens, showing all sports every night of the week. Outstanding food and drinks.
Lumpys Sportsbars (2 locations: downtown at 250 South Pierpont Ave, and at 3000 South Highland Drive; 801-484-5597). Sports viewing, dancing, DJs, live bands, karaoke, pool, fine wines, spirits, imported beer, food, reasonable prices.
Murphy's Bar & Grill (downtown at 160 South Main; 801-359-7271). An Irish pub popular with locals and visitors. TVs for sports viewing, a game area, a jukebox with a wide selection of music. Full menu for lunch and dinner.
Port O' Call (downtown at 72 1/2 West 400 South; 801-521-0589). Comfortable pub-like atmosphere on the main floor, game room and TVs showing sports downstairs, large stage and dance floor upstairs. Micro brews and great sandwiches.
The Tavernacle Social Club (downtown at 201 East 300 South; 801-519-8900). Famous for its interactive dueling piano show, which can get noisy and rowdy. Excellent sub sandwiches and specialty pizzas.
Wasatch Clubhouse (1053 E. 2100 South; 801-483-9277). Authentic karaoke - you and your friends get a private room where you can party and sing your hearts out.
Zanzibar (downtown at 677 S. 200 West; 801-746-0590). This trendy bar features live jazz and blues 7 nights a week.
