"If you only knew..." These words proclaim the transformation Solitude Mountain Resort has taken over the past several years. What used to be a locals only day area has become a family friendly European-styled pedestrian village boasting spectacular scenery, cozy resort accommodations and an abundance of activities.
|At Solitude Resort|
Far from the crowds at other resorts, 12 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon, is a whole different world; a world where the sense of calm and peacefulness can only be described as "solitude." It's a place of unrivaled beauty, a place where priorities slip back into place and you're free to reconnect with nature, with your family, friends, and with yourself.
Solitude's charming European-style pedestrian village is home to a wide range of accommodations, featuring luxurious 1-3 bedroom condos in unique, tasteful settings and the Bavarian style first-class hotel at the Inn at Solitude. Unwind after a day on the slopes in the large living areas while hot chocolate warms up in the gourmet kitchen. There is a condo size and configuration perfect for you and your family. The Inn is designed to pamper and relax, with amenities such as an on-site spa, ski in/out convenience and an attentive staff.
Enjoy family and fine dining, at Creekside Restaurant or St. Bernard's award winning country French cuisine. Adventurous diners can don snowshoes or cross-country skis for a ¾ mile trek to the Yurt where a chef will prepare a 5 course meal in front of your eyes. Back in the Village, the Stone Haus Pizzeria & Creamery offers hot meal options all day, while the Thirsty Squirrel serves up any adult beverage of your choosing.
Solitude averages 500" of the Greatest Snow on Earth®, which means conditions are always at their prime: no matter if it is powder or groomers you are after. Under this immense white blanket, you'll discover over 1,200 acres of wide-open bowls, gladed tree runs, steep chutes and perfectly groomed gentle cruising slopes that are never crowded and always ready to thrill skiers and boarders of all ages and skill levels.
In the heart of the village, our lodging guests will find Club Solitude, featuring large-screen movies in the media room, a game room, and an outdoor heated pool and hot tubs. Other activities include ice skating, Nordic skiing, and family-centered events such as story-telling and puppet shows.
No matter the season, consider staying in posh accommodations at The Inn when visiting the Solitude area.
Another New Quad For 2009/2010
Solitude Mountain Resort has completed installation on Powderhorn II, a $1.5 million improvement to the lift system. Snowriders load at the bottom of Sunshine Bowl, travel above the Concord ski run, and depart in the same location as the original Powderhorn Lift. The mid-mountain starting point allows expert snowriders to make continuous laps on the upper mountain - from Diamond Lane to Sunshine Bowl - without the need to return to the base area via beginner runs. A speedy 7-minute lift ride provides easy access to some of the state's steepest groomed terrain. Plus, the off-piste terrain in Honeycomb Canyon will still be conveniently accessed from the top of this lift.
Last winter's new Apex and Moonbeam Express lifts introduced high speed lift access from both base areas to mid-mountain, allowing Powderhorn II to begin higher on the mountain. Accessible from all three detachable lifts, including Eagle Express, a greater on-mountain flow is achieved throughout the resort.
Beginner and intermediate visitors can appreciate the new lift, as well, even though they may not ride it until their skills improve, as advanced and expert visitors will remain higher on the mountain, easing traffic in prime learning areas lower on the mountain. This natural segregation puts visitors of like abilities in terrain conducive to their ability, creating an improved experience for all.
Replacement of the original Powderhorn double – a holdover from the mid-70s – comes on the heels of last winter's $7 million investment in two detachable express quads. That's three new quads in just the past two years!
