Utah Trails
Mill Creek North Fork
Length: 3 miles round trip
Difficulty: Moderate

Description: A sparkling stream flowing through a red-rock canyon, refreshing swimming holes, a small waterfall and ancient rock art are highlights of this short hike on the east edge of Moab.

The trail is easy to follow as it enters Mill Creek Canyon. The route crosses the stream in several places so plan on getting wet. You can avoid many of the deeper holes, but it is more fun to swim through them. In fact, a couple of the pools make ideal swimming holes during warm weather. This is a popular area - there will be others on the trail - so wear shorts or swimsuits.

Mill Creek Trailhead
The trailhead is at the end of Power House Road. From Moab, follow Mill Creek Drive to the three-way stop, then turn onto Mill Creek Road and follow it to Power House Road. There is a large parking area at the trailhead, and hiking info on a kiosk, but no drinking water or restrooms.

North Fork
The canyon splits about 3/4 mile above the trailhead. Take the North (left) fork and just continue hiking up the canyon. There is poison ivy along the route so use caution.

Swimming Holes
The first popular swimming hole is located below a waterfall about one mile up the canyon. You can't miss it if you just follow the stream up the canyon. There is a cliff above the pool and some people jump into the water. Always check for safety and use caution. A second large swimming hole is located about 1/2 mile farther up the stream.

Rock Art
There is beautiful rock art on boulders along the stream, about 200 yards below the first swimming hole. More rock art can be found between the swimming holes, and a large panel of impressive figures can be found about 200 yards above the second pool.
