| Spectra Point/Ramparts Overlook Trail Length: 4 miles round trip Difficulty: Moderate Description: This hike follows the rim of Cedar Breaks National Monument, providing spectacular views in all directions. The trail approaches an elevation of 10,500 feet above sea level. At that elevation, the moderately strenuous route is not recommended for persons with cardiac or pulmonary health problems. Also, sunburn can occur quickly at high elevations so wear a hat and apply sunscreen. Bristlecone pine trees grow along the trail. They are among the longest-living organisms on earth – the oldest known tree in the monument is over 1,600 years old. Trailhead The trailhead is located just south of the Visitor Center, on Hwy 148. From the trailhead you hike south and west along the rim, on a well-marked trail. Spectra Point It is 1 mile (one way) from the trailhead to Spectra Point. The trail runs through the forest on the rim, and then out onto the open point. Ramparts Overlook From Spectra to Ramparts Overlook is another mile (one way). Again you hike through the trees along an obvious trail, and then out onto the open point. Hike as far as you want along the trail and then return the way you came. |
