|Grandeur Peak via Church Fork
Length: 5.5 miles out and back
Description: Grandeur Peak is an 8299 foot summit on the east side of Salt Lake Valley. It is one of Utah's easier mountains to summit. At the top you get extensive views over the Salt Lake Valley, and also of neighboring peaks.
You gain about 2400 feet as you hike from the trailhead to the summit. As mountain peaks go, this route is not overly steep and is fairly easy to hike.
Church Fork Trailhead
The trailhead is located at the Church Fork Picnic Area, in Mill Creek Canyon about 3.2 miles up from the canyon mouth. You pick up the trail at the north end of the picnic area. The trail is wide, well-marked and easy to follow. The trail is wide, well-marked and easy to follow.
The trail follows a small stream north into the forest and then climbs to a saddle via switchbacks. From the saddle you have grand views into Parleys Canyon and out over the Salt Lake Valley. From the saddle it is just 1/2 mile to the summit. Return the way you came in. You can also summit Grandeur from the West Ridge Trailhead at the top of Wasatch Boulevard. That route is a little shorter, but is steeper and more difficult.
