Zip through Heber Valley on four wheels, four legs, or on a track-with-skis thingamajig (you know, whatever they put on snowmobiles).

Once a small, sleepy region known for its milk and mining, Heber Valley has quickly become the go-to getaway for urban escape artists, outdoor adventurers and weekend nomads alike. For outdoor recreation throughout the year, this small-town gem’s got you covered. Heber-ites are proud to trace their town’s heritage to its Swiss founders, and with all the chalets and picturesque mountain pastures you might just forget you’re not in the Alps.

Here are four ways to enjoy Heber Valley while stationed at Daniels Summit Lodge.

1. Snowmobiling

There’s a reason why the locals look to Daniels Summit as Utah’s snowmobile Mecca. The 40 miles of trails that lead you to the 10,000-foot summit are groomed each and every day. You can choose from guided tours or rent one of their 100 sweet machines and strike out on your own. And remember: “When in doubt, throttle out.” Trust us.

2. Razor Rentals

Ain’t no better way to explore the mountains in the warmer months than on a RZR (aka side-by-side, aka 4-seater ATV, aka golf cart on steroids). You’ll feel like Mad Max: Trail Warrior. If you don’t like tree-lined trails, the latest and greatest machines, and otherworldly off-road experiences, you shouldn’t come to Daniels Summit. On the other hand...

3. Horseback Riding

Okay, so you’re more keen on traditional horsepower. You want a wide-eyed gulp of the Wasatch Back from the best seat in the house: a saddle. And you don’t even have to bring your own. Two-hour guided tours on a friendly steed are available daily in the spring, summer and fall.

4. Mountain Accommodations

Horror movies give cabins in the woods a bad name. Daniels Summit is working to reclaim the whole notion. Luxurious amenities, rustic decor, doorstep access to recreation and an utter lack of axe murderers are a good start. Choose from three accommodation types:

Lodge – great for couples

Cabins – perfect for small families

Mountain Home – ideal for family reunions (don't invite your cousin Jason)
