Piute County

You thought you had your next trip planned, and you'd just pass through this county. Oh, but how wrong you were. Once you're in Piute County, the last thing you'll want to do is get back on the road again. With only about three hotels in sight, you can experience Piute Reservoir State Park, Otter Creek State Park, Paiute Trail, Sevier River and Butch Cassidy's boyhood home in solitude.

Some Piute Favorites

It's none other than the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy. Before his myriad of robbing banks and trains, he was just a boy living at home. You now have the chance to visit this 'man of many brands' boyhood home to see where he lived during his cattle rustling days.

Want to ATV all your cares away? Butch Cassidy probably wished he could have. The Paiute Trail spans across 278 miles of land with about 80 percent of dirt roads and 20 percent of paved trails.

After the Paiute ATV Trail, you might want some time for deep reflection on how magnificent it all was. Great news! Stop by the Piute Reservoir for serene fishing where you're likely to catch some good ol' rainbow trout.

You may also want to venture to the Sevier River where you can catch some German browns and rainbow trout. Sevier River is an excellent destination for whitewater rafting, kayaking, swimming and tubing. You may also spot some wildlife nearby like deer, elk, mountain lions, eagles and more!

Your trip wouldn't be complete without stopping by Otter Creek State Park. This is the perfect destination for ATV rides, fishing, boating, and bird watching. You can also stay the night at its campground/RV park so when you wake up, you'll be ready to do everything all over again.

This event occurs every summer and includes rodeos for all ages, exhibits, delicious barbecue, and so much more.

UTV Jamboree

UTV your way along the Paiute Trail, compete against other riders, have dinner on the mountain and enjoy this jamboree for several days each summer.

Be there or be square on July 24th. It's time to celebrate Utah's pioneer heritage with parades, food, dancing, games and more.

Additional Things To Do & See

Outdoor Activities

Mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, ATV riding and fishing are popular in the warmer months. In the colder months snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing are all the rage.

Tushar Mountains

These mountains lay on the remains of an ancient volcano. If that doesn't have you erupting with excitement, the fact that they rise above the timberline to 12,000 feet and offer spectacular views should do the trick.

Clear Creek Canyon

This canyon dates back all the way to 5200 B.C. Today, hiking trails are available for viewing petroglyphs, pictographs and more of the land's history.
