RV Parks & Campgrounds in Utah
Trailer camping has been described by some as bringing your own portable cabin with you. A trailer or RV allows you to enjoy the best of the outdoors with some of the comforts of home.
Depending on the size of your trailer or RV, you can bring your whole wardrobe, the contents of your refrigerator, the dog, cat, the neighbors - and you don't have to haul anything out to set up camp! You have access to almost all of the put-ins of the campsites at improved campgrounds, and all the conveniences when you camp at an unimproved campground.
Trailer/RV camping is great for small children, older adults or those with disabilities. It's also just the ticket for those who believe "roughing it" still includes flush toilets, showers, and TV.
Most public and private campgrounds in Utah offer RV sites. Campgrounds near major recreation areas are usually well-equipped to accommodate RVers. Excellent options are available near our national parks, national recreation areas, national forests, state parks and other popular destinations. RVs can make camping pleasant year-round. During the summer, many enthusiasts head to lake and mountain areas. During winter the sunny skies around St. George attract such campers.
Even with all of the benefits, trailer/RV camping can be frustrating without proper preparation. Here are a few tips to ensure you have a pleasant trip:
Check reservation status. Before heading to a designated private or public campground, especially during holiday weekends, confirm reservations before leaving to avoid being turned away at a full campground. Some areas are first-come, first-served, and an early start is required to ensure you obtain a site. Other areas take reservations up to a year in advance. Plan early and make appropriate reservations, if possible, and have a backup plan ready.
Renew registration early. Avoid long lines by renewing your trailer registration early. Renewing through the mail is most convenient. Avoid procrastinating until the end of the month or before a holiday weekend, when lines are the longest. Many trailer and boat registrations are renewed just before Easter or Memorial Day. Especially long lines await these unfortunate campers. Again, avoid this by planning ahead.
Check insurance. Some insurance policies do not provide coverage when towing a trailer. Check your policy or call your insurance agent to see if you are fully covered.
