Panguitch

Just a short, scenic drive from Bryce Canyon National Park's hoodoo fairyland

Panguitch is the hub of scenic outdoor adventure and a haven of historical small town ambience. From Panguitch you are within driving distance of five national parks (Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Zion, Canyonlands, North Rim of the Grand Canyon), five popular state parks and recreation areas (Red Canyon, Kodachrome Basin, Escalante Petrified Forest, Anasazi Indian Village, Calf Creek Falls), and two national monuments (Grand Staircase-Escalante, Cedar Breaks).

From the hauntingly beautiful hoodoos of Bryce Canyon to the sweeping panorama of Cedar Breaks, some of the most majestic views on earth await you.

Land of Plentiful Lakes & Mountains

Panguitch, a Pauite Indian word meaning “Big Fish”, is undoubtedly named for the plentiful lakes in the nearby mountains offering excellent year-round fishing and summer boating. You can also hike, bike, or ride your ATV on the picturesque trails around Panguitch and the surrounding areas. If you’re in the mood for a scenic drive, Utah Route 143, also known as the Patchwork Parkway, and Utah Scenic Byway 12 are rated among the best in America.

After hours full of sightseeing and outdoor adventure, Panguitch is the perfect place to rest and prepare for new and exciting experiences the next day. Although a small town, Panguitch offers full-service grocery, drug, and hardware stores, a hospital, five gas station/convenience stores, ten restaurants, 24 hotel/ bed & breakfast/vacation rentals, and three campground/RV parks. You can shop in the unique collectible and antique shops on Main Street or enjoy a movie, ice cream, and museum at the historic Gem Theatre.

Rich History, Festivals and Events

Panguitch, a national historic district, traces its roots to early Mormon settlers. You can view beautiful red brick homes and buildings, scattered throughout the community, built using bricks kilned from iron-rich clay by these early pioneers. A Quilt Walk Park and annual Quilt Walk Festival honor seven brave men who crossed the mountains to Parowan in 1864, using quilts to support their weight in the snow, to bring flour to the starving citizens of Panguitch. You can also enjoy old-time country music and a “taste of Panguitch” at the annual fiddler’s festival held at the historic Social Hall.

In the spirit of paying tribute to the past, Panguitch offers a multitude of festivals and events. The last weekend in June brings the annual Balloon Festival with numerous hot air balloons floating lazily in the Panguitch sky early in the mornings and a magical balloon glow on Main Street at dusk on Saturday night. Rodeos, concerts, horse racing, sports tournaments, and equestrian competitions are held at the Triple C Arena and you can catch a little league or high school baseball game at the ball fields on a lazy summer night. From its Pioneer Day celebration and parades in the summer to a city New Year’s Eve Party and fishing derby in the winter, Panguitch offers something for every season.

With mild summer temperatures and rugged winter vistas, Panguitch is the historic hub for all your outdoor adventures!
