Weber State University


Weber State University is a four-year institution of higher education located in Ogden. The century-old university has a faculty of 442 persons. The relatively modern campus is 400-acres. 89 percent of the buildings have been constructed since 1960.

Schools at Weber include the College of Applied Science & Technology, the College of Arts & Humanities, the College of Education, the College of Health Professions, the College of Science, the College of Social & Behavioral Science and the John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics.

Various programs are offered at WSU, which allow students to choose to earn a bachelor's or associate degree, or a professional certificate. Master's degrees are also offered in some disciplines. An early college program permits high school students to enter college early to take WSU classes for credit.

WSU's continuing education division teaches classes at times and places to meet the complex needs of students balancing family and work responsibilities. Distance learning, independent study, evening courses,and off-site locations provide learning opportunities for many students throughout northern Utah

For four consecutive years, named in The Student Guide to America's 100 Best College Buys, published by John Culler & Sons in South Carolina. WSU was selected for high quality and reasonable cost out of nearly 1,800 colleges and universities surveyed nationwide.

Recognized in a national surveys by U.S. News & World Report.

Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for WEMATH, a three-state computer network, that links primary school math teachers.

Selected as the only institution in the Great Plains and Pacific Coast for Project 30, a Carnegie-funded national project to develop local models for the improvement of teacher education.

Selected by the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development to administer a statewide high-technology training center.

Recognized as being one of only four institutions in the United States with a four-year automotive degree program and cooperative automotive technical training programs with General Motors, Toyota and Chrysler.

WSU has the highest percentage of pre-med students accepted into medical school of any program in Utah. Students are accepted for admission to medical schools at a rate 30 percent above the national average.

College of Applied Science & Technology students and faculty have worked on eight different satellite projects since 1985, when they produced NUSAT, the first satellite built by undergraduate students to be launched into space. The satellite orbited the earth for 20 months. NASA launched another WSU satellite in 1990. JAWSAT, WSU's latest satellite was successfully launched in January, 2000.

More than 90 percent of students enrolled in the College of Business & Economics are placed in jobs before graduation.

Students from the College of Applied Science & Technology have designed an electric car and are working on an electric bus.

Delta Airlines selected WSU to be the first university in the United States to house a reservation center that employs 200 students.

WSU offers a wider selection of undergraduate degrees than any public institution in the state.

Master's degrees offered at WSU include: accountancy, business administration, criminal justice and education.

WSU Online allows students to take classes from anywhere at anytime by offering nearly 160 classes via the Internet.

Performing Arts Department has won regional and national competitions by the American College Theater Festival twice in the last ten years. The honor included performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

WSU offers the region's most comprehensive nursing programs.

WSU is home to the Utah Musical Theatre, Northern Utah's premiere summer stock theater.

WSU athletics have received national recognition in team and club sports including: basketball, women's and men's soccer, rodeo, track and hockey.
