Social Hall Heritage Museum
Although the pioneers who settled the Salt Lake Valley are best remembered for their diligence and hard work, they also knew how to have a good time. In fact, their ability to enjoy wholesome entertainment -- especially singing and dancing -- may have saved their sanity while toiling toward Utah on the plains of the American midwest.
The Social Hall Heritage Museum, located at 51 South State Street in Salt Lake City, is dedicated to the lighter side of pioneer life. Visitors gain a greater understanding of this important aspect of early Utah society. The remains of the original Social Hall, built under the administration of Brigham Young, were discovered in 1991. Today the museum which preserves these remains is open to the public Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
