Split Mountain River Rafting

Split Mountain Gorge offers one of the best short whitewater rafting trips in Utah. The rafting is exciting, but of intermediate (Class III) difficulty, so novice rafters, families and children age six and above can join in the fun. Zooming through rapids like Moonshine, SOB and Schoolboy is exhilarating and full of splashes. There are four big rapids and many other smaller ones where you will be blasting through waves and shooting through narrow chutes.

A small community with paramount surroundings

Any museum with a giant Stegosaurus outside has to be pretty rad inside.Vernal is a prime destination for relaxation or adventure. Backdrops of mountain vistas and sunsets characterize Vernal's lush landscape of corn and sunflowers. Also known as "Dinosaurland," Vernal is home to the largest quarry of prehistoric Jurassic dinosaur bones. Dinosaur National Monument is located 20 minutes east of Vernal.

Boutiques and shops are sprinkled with remnants of the long-ago Jurassic inhabitants. Within Vernal, the Utah Field House of Natural History Museum State Park offers real-life replicas of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals.On an annual basis, Vernal hosts festivals and rodeo celebrations as well as live local music. Throughout the winter months, Vernal teems with snow great for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.Vernal is a thriving haven for the outdoor enthusiast. A vintage of mountain biking trails pepper the rugged Uinta Mountains. Reservoirs, lakes and streams offer popular water activities such as boating, whitewater rafting and kayaking.Just north of Vernal lies Flaming Gorge Recreation Center which hosts more than 2 million visitors a year. Neighboring state parks, including Steinaker and Red Fleet, also offer many of these activities. World-class fishing is also available throughout Vernal's myriad of streams. Exploration via backpacking, hiking and camping are also prominent sports. Off-road and ATV trails are also available.From high mountain vistas to the scenery of the desert, Vernal is an oasis of adventure and excitement in the 'great outdoors'.

One-day Trips

This is a popular half or full-day trip. In eight miles, there is a series of several class three rapids. There is enough whitewater to guarantee thrills, but not so much as to overwhelm. This can be a fun one-day trip for experienced rafters, or provide a great introduction for first-timers. Lunch is provided on full-day trips; snacks may be provided on ½-day trips.

Multi-day Trips

Multi-day trips are not run down Split Mountain.
