Potash Moab Scenic Drive

From its junction with US-191 three miles north of Moab, Potash Scenic Byway follows the Colorado River.

Shortly beyond Jug Handle Arch, the canyon widens. The sheer cliffs below Dead Horse Point State Park are visible in the distance. The paved highway ends at the Moab Salt Plant where potash, a mineral used as a fertilizer, is extracted by flushing large volumes of water through an extensive system of tunnels and then evaporating the water in ponds. From the end of the byway, drivers with high clearance vehicles can continue on a dirt road to Canyonlands National Park.

The scenic byway is approximately two hours for the 34 -mile round-trip drive to Jug Handle Arch.
