Mountain Biking The White Rim Trail

The White Rim Trail is a popular biking and Jeeping route in Canyonlands National Park, near Moab, Utah.

The total distance is just over 100 miles. Most riders take 3-4 days to complete the route, camping along the way. Most also have a support vehicle carry supplies. The route is considered one of the world's great multi-day rides.

Some fanatic riders complete the 100 miles in one day, but most experienced riders will need to spend multiple days to complete the full route. The route is not technical but the length and elevation gains make it strenuous. You're constantly going up and down. Collectively, the elevation changes add up to more than 4,000 vertical feet.

Riders with support vehicles can choose to do shorter rides - just start and stop wherever you choose along the trail.

You need a permit from Canyonlands National Park to camp along the route. Only a limited number of permits are available and they sell out for weekend tripsduring spring and fall. Make reservations early if you want permits during the peak season.

During good weather, the White Rim is considered moderately difficult for high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles. When the route is wet it may become very difficult to navigate. Regardless of the weather, your support vehicle definitely needs to be a high clearance 4X4.
