Malans Peak


Located on the east side of Ogden, the summit of Malans Peak offers dramatic views out over the community, the Great Salt Lake and the surrounding mountains. The trail is signed and easy to follow. The route is somewhat steep, but not too bad. Take it slow and anyone can make this hike.

There are excellent views at several points along the trail, and so you don't have to make it to the summit to enjoy a hike here. Strong hikers can continue past the summit into Malans Basin, which is a popular camping spot for backpackers.

29th Street Trailhead

The trail begins at the 29th Street Trailhead, located at the top of 29th Street on the east side of Ogden. A parking area, restrooms and other facilities are provided.

Top of 27th Street

You can also get onto the trail at the top of 27th Street.

Taylor Canyon

The trail is signed for Taylor Canyon. Follow it north and east along the edge of town and then into Taylor Canyon. After a short ways it climbs via switchbacks to the top of the ridge on the south side of the canyon and then continues on to the summit.

Summit

The summit elevation is 6980 feet. You gain 2140 feet over the course of the hike. The trail is clearly marked and easy to follow the entire way. Simply return the way you can up.
