Grand Canyon National Park Itinerary
How do you cover 277 river miles, 18 miles in breadth and 1 mile in depth? The Grand Canyon is massive, overwhelming and awesome. If you have just a few days, here are our suggestions for experiencing the best of this national park.
3 Days, 2 Nights at the Grand Canyon
Day One
South Rim
Check-in to lodging accommodations.
Drive Along the Rim
Spend the afternoon and early evening driving along the main road through the South Rim of the Park where there are plenty of overlook pullouts to get a feel for the park. You could also hop on nearby Desert View Drive that spans 26 miles along the rim.
Grab dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Day Two
Hike Grandview to Horseshoe Mesa
- 6.4 miles
- 5-6 hours
- Strenuous
Pack a lunch and bring plenty of water. The views are definitely worth the strenuous trail--you'll be glad you got out and used your legs to inhale the beauty of the South Rim.
Picnic Dinner at Yavapai Observation Station
You earned it. Take it easy for the rest of the afternoon and evening after such a fantastic hike. Drive along the rim until you get to Yavapai Observation Station for panoramic views worth soaking up--and eating while you're at it.
Day Three
Mule Ride
A classic activity. There are many guiding services that will take you out on the trails, down into the depths of the canyon. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Pack up the car, plane, taxi and head on home.
